Answer key and solutions

  1. Problem 1. Answer: 30

    Each box contains 40 tokens, and one quarter of 40 is 10. Taking 10 from each of three boxes gives 30.

  2. Problem 2. Answer: 420

    Select two of six horizontal boundaries and two of eight vertical ones: 15 × 28 = 420.

  3. Problem 3. Answer: 6

    Such numbers are multiples of 18: 108, 126, 144, 162, 180, 198. There are six of them.

  4. Problem 4. Answer: 30

    The ratio has five equal parts, so each part contains 15 beads. Blue beads make up two parts, or 30 beads.

    Average 29; next to it are 27 and 31. The largest is 31.

    The two digits make up three equal parts: 6 and 3. The number is 63.
